A vacation destination!
Las Palomas Guesthouse is a peaceful, private guesthouse, built for our family and friends, now shared with new friends as our guests. We are eco-friendly (solar panels feed the grid). Our deep-well water is pure and perfect. We are also dog friendly, if their owners are responsible and well behaved. Make yourselves right at home! Nuestra casita es su casita!
Blue sky in the day, dark sky at night with millions of stars (sitting the the hot tub is a good place to spot meteor showers).
The kitchen is a full, cook's kitchen. We provide ORGANIC breakfast foods when we can, including eggs, milk, bread, cereal, yogurt, oatmeal, coffee, teas galore, butter, jam, mustard, mayonnaise, catsup, oil, vinegar, sugar, and more spices than you could shake a spatula at. That bit of baking soda and few tablespoons of flour are there too, most likely.
There is an outside table for meals and an electric barbecue (to avoid fire danger in dry seasons). You will find fire s grill utensils, aluminum foil, cling wrap, ice trays, tissues, kitchen towel, paper and cloth napkins. Bring on the steaks!
Supermarkets (Albertsons, WalMart, etc.) are in Silver City, 25 or so miles away, or even farther afield. We are a frontier community and we learn to keep our pantries stocked and our gas tanks full.
Give us a call and we'll see if we can book you in! Or visit AirBnB.com and book there too where we also accept most major credit cards.
We are members of the Silver City Chamber of Commerce - if we cannot accommodate your schedule, we recommend you contact them (see "What To Do" button at left). Thank you for visiting our website.
More About Las Palomas Guesthouse:
Our property comprises 86+ acres and is part of a working ranch of over 2,000 acres. You can walk along Bear Creek on our property. And just up the road you have the Gila Wilderness - 3.5 million acres of true wilderness.
We have an Endless Pool that we may allow guests to use, at times, at our discretion, and at your own risk.
We live and work at home, next door, and are usually available for tips, ideas and general assistance. We will always have a back up helper if we are unavailable. We are happy to help, we are also happy to leave you alone to discover the peace and beauty at Las Palomas.
Our two Golden Retrievers are very friendly. Too friendly?
Airports: El Paso 3+ hours away. Tucson 3+ hours away. Phoenix 5+ hours away. Albuquerque 5+ hours away. Silver City/Grant County has a small airport with flights connecting to Albuquerque through Boutique Air. Taylor Rental will leave you a car at the airport. Simple.
The train stops in Lordsburg and Deming. They must have rentals...?
Access to the guesthouse is after a 2.4 mile dirt open ranch road and then a 1 mile dirt driveway. Cars with very low clearance should proceed carefully (but normally there is no issue). We have picked up cyclists from the "pavement meets dirt" in Gila.
Off road skills are needed for motorcyclists. Mopeds are iffy. No skates.
We will accept parachutists, hikers, and maybe horseback enthusiasts, but we do not have a corral and there are other horses on the ranch.
Other Things to Note
Don't forget a hat, sunscreen and sunglasses! Also, binoculars are useful for birding. Local calls are free. We do not get cell service at the guesthouse, but we do at the top of the driveway.
Silver City with full shopping facilities is 25 miles away (a stress-free drive) and there are stores, a micro-brewery, restaurants and a movie theater. Tourist sites include City of Rocks, the Catwalk, the Gila Cliff Dwellings and many more. This is the real west, if you have seen the movie Stagecoach (John Wayne and Andy Devine) "All abooord, leaving Silver City..."
House Rules (repeated on Rates Page):
We live on a working ranch with cattle and horses... they always have right of way when you are walking or driving and your safety is your responsibility. Just ask us before you go hiking for safety tips (we have walking sticks and walkie-talkies as well).
In general, we are pretty laid-back and mellow and you can do your thing unperturbed. There are some things that could go without saying, but they won't, so here goes.
Never leave children unattended, No matter the age.
Never leave an outside door open - we live adjacent to the Gila wilderness, home to a wide variety of critters. If you go out for a while, please shut the windows because of sudden wind gusts and possible breakage. (Yes, it has happened.)
PETS: We may allow well-behaved dogs if your dog likes other dogs (we have two), likes other people, won't bother cows and horses on this open ranch, is up to date with vaccinations (Kennel Cough and we recommend snake vaccine in warm weather), is NEVER left alone in the house, and has an owner who takes full responsibility for ANY damage to person or property. We have furniture cover sheets if you like to cuddle your dog on the couch or bed.
No outside FIRES without permission (ask, fire danger is seasonal).
No smoking inside. Smoking outside by the chiminea is allowed.
The hot tub has a few fussy but easy rules about the buttons and lid, we will fill you in on those when you arrive and can see what we are talking about. You can even call us for help if you are on your own and can't manage the lid. Please use the towels and guest robes, if you like, that are provided for the hot tub. Other towels are for the shower/tub.
We have an Endless Pool that we allow guests to use, at times, at our discretion, and at your own risk. No diving, no running, no glass, no pee pee, no dunking, no drowning, no lifeguard... the usual pool rules apply here too. Got sunscreen?
